A days Paragliding! (at last)
November 16th 2004 -
Hurrah, at last an entry about a days paragliding. Went up to Firle on Saturday but it was a bit too windy. Chris Joel thought it might be flyable and demonstrated that it really wasn’t by being picked up straight off the ground and blown back over the carpark, so I went home.
Sunday was different altogether; a nice light to moderate steady wind. Practiced a bit of groundhandling to get my confidence back (haven’t flown since July) and then had some great flying. There must have been about 40 gliders up at one point, all the way from the beacon to the west end of the Firle ridge. Kathryn turned up about 3pm with Mum, Dad, Dominic and Amelia and she took these photos. Unfortunately they didn’t see me fly because by that time the wind had dropped off to nothing (and I was too lazy to do a top to bottom to show them I could do it.
). Clocked up about an hour, plus an hours groundhandling. My harness was adjusted to be too reclined and so after about 10 minutes in the air my stomach muscles were aching really badly, and so I kept having to land sooner than I needed to. I tried to adjust it on the hill after landing but got the same on my next flight. My (top) landings were great though. Overall very pleased with myself.

Its a 2 year old Logic, I don’t fly often enough to have moved up to a 1-2 yet.
