Amphibious Bicycles
July 9th 2008 -
Did the London to Oxford ride proper on Sunday. The weather couldn’t really have been much worse, pouring with rain and strong wind. We were soaked before we got out of Ealing and because I’m not used to cycling in the wet (fairweather cyclist) I felt constantly on the verge of cramp.
In hindsight it was a great day though with all six of us making it more or less together. Total time about six hours including an hours stop in Marlow to ingest bacon butties, coffee and to defrost a bit.
Pretty proud of my hill climbing ability which is definitely an huge improvement over when I first got back on my bike earlier in the year.
Much more low key than the London to Brighton which is the only organised ride I have had experience of in the past. There were about 2000 riders starting this one, compared to the 50,000 who do the L2B. Made for a much nicer ride because even if people stopped on hills etc. you could still get past.
Stopped for a team photo outside my old house in Iver

(it was strange to be cycling around my oild stomping ground again, and had another taken in the cafe in Marlow.

Here’s us at the finish with a well-earned ale.

Look pretty fresh considering. Must be refrigeration effects.
